Lesson 2: Quick Start

Welcome back. In this video, we’re going to talk about how to start a zoom meeting quickly.

So in order to start a meeting quickly, if you don’t already have an account, you’ll need to go to zoom.us and sign up for a free account. So you’ll click on the button and you’ll be asked for a verification to confirm your date of birth, you’re going to go ahead and enter in your date of birth, and then hit Continue.

And now you’re going to enter the email address that you want to sign up your account with and click the sign up button.

Now, once you’ve done that, you’ll need to go to your inbox and check for the email that Zoo just sent you and there’ll be a link that you need to click on to confirm your email address.

Once you open up the email, you will see the button to click to activate your account. Or you can copy and paste this link into your browser. So I’m going to click the button.

Next it’s going to ask you are you signing up on behalf of the school? If you are, you’ll check yes, if you’re not, you will check no and then continue.

Now here you’re going to enter in your first name, your last name and your password. Now when creating your password, your password must have at least eight characters. It has to have one letter, one number, and it must include both upper and lowercase characters. Make sure that when you create your strong password, you write this password down somewhere safe to remember for later on.

Okay, now that you’ve entered in your name, and created your strong password, you will click Continue.

On this page, you’ll be asked if you want to invite colleagues to create their own zoom account. And you can skip this step unless you already have someone in mind that you want to invite to zoom. So you’ll either click the invite button, or click the skip this step button.

Now on this next page, you’ll see a link right away that will allow you to start your first meeting. You’ll see that link on your screen right here. And you can either click this link or you can click the button that says start meeting now.

You’re going to also need to download a plugin to your hard drive in order to start working with zoom. And to do that, you’ll need to save the plug in to your hard drive and you’ll need to do that in your current browser configuration. Now right now I’m using Google Chrome However, you can do the same thing in your preferred web browser.

So now you’ll need to go ahead and click on the download that you just got for the plugin, and you’ll need to run this download.

So you’ll click on it and it will install Zoo to your computer. 

Once you’ve installed the plug in now you’ll see that the zoom client has opened and it’s now putting you in the waiting area in order for you to start your meeting. Now for the sake of of a quick start guide, we’re going to assume that you have a computer audio or some kind of headset that you’re operating with. You can just click this button that says join audio and you can see that I am connected using my computer audio.

So that is already connected.

And now you’re in the waiting room. So the next thing you’re going to want to do is you’re going to want to invite an individual to join you in that room. And to do that, you’re going to click on the invite others button. And once you do, you’ll have a pop up. And what you want to do is click on the button that says copy invitation.

And this information, you’re going to get the link to the Zoom Room that they’ll need to click on. They’re going to have a meeting ID number that they need and a password that they need.

Now when the individual gets this invitation, they’re going to click on the link, and it’s going to take them in their browser.

And they will have to download the same software that you did if they don’t already have the software. So one of the things that you need to do is for sure until individuals that they’re going to don’t need to download some software to their personal computer in order to join you in the meeting.

Now, once the individual has clicked on their meeting invitation, they will then come into your waiting room. And now you’re going to need to admit that individual in order for them to become part of the meeting, you can see that I’ve got a notification that my attendant has been put in the waiting room. So I’m going to and you can actually click to see your participants so you can see them

I have one person waiting, and you click on the admit button to let them into the meeting.

Now you can see that I’m the host. And you can see that my mic is on. But my video camera is turned off, you can see my participant, they do not have their video camera on and right now they have no audio.

So if you want to do a chat with your invited person, you can come down here to the bottom bar and click on chat. And you can see here you can type a message to either everyone or if there are more than one participant in here, you can choose who you want to send a private message to. So you can also if you’re wanting to record your meeting, this would be the record button that you would turn on and you can either record to your local computer, the computer you’re using

You can actually record to the cloud. And we’ll cover more about the cloud recording in another video.

This records in an mp4 format, which is a video format, you also get an audio recorded file. And if you have any chat, it will also save a txt file of the chat for this meeting. So these are going to be all of the settings that you’re going to need in order to get started quickly to using the zoom meeting. And we’ll be looking at all of these settings more in detail in the rest of the course. This is the end of this video, and I’ll see you in the next video.
